If you call a SetWindowLong before the SetParent call, it should keep the taskbar button for the main form selected. It's just the way it is with some apps, other MDI apps have dockable windows that you can move outside the normal app screen space. It's not a problem unless you want to make it one. There are some dialog boxes that end up behind all application windows, but don't have a button in the taskbar.

So, the system tray is using almost 1/3 of the space in the TaskBar. I know I can enlarge the task bar to double its height, for example, but I need screen for programs, not for the taskbar. I think some people may have a better idea about the system tray, maybe converting it to an independent, dockable bar.

These toolbars are nothing more than a special, dockable view of a folder. Even the quick launch toolbar is just showing the contents of a folder, Right click on the taskbar and choose Toolbar and the New Toolbar. Browse to your desktop folder. If you don't have profiles setup, then it will be \Windows\Desktop.
